Music video analyse research

 Analyse of three music videos

1. Love song brief - Love Story (Taylor Swift)

The music video follows a story of a relationship from two people meeting to falling in love and its a performance music video starring the singer, and the song and some elements of the music video have contextual context to Romeo and Juliet and their forbidden young love, as they have also only just met and sneak off and look as if they are falling in love. I think this video could be for 12-20. The Media language in this music video is very much based on dreamy, the lighting is warm and lighting p Taylor Swift almost Angel like, the song is quite soft and it's based in a big castle with big fancy dresses. The shots were either many close-ups of their faces or Taylor Swifts face on her own or long shots of the dance floor. This music video fits the love style theme as its a classic love story theme and it consistently shows the journey of their development.

2. Love song brief - Into You (Ariana Grande)

This music video already starts with a couple that are already together it looks, and they are taking a trip together. It looks like its representing a young teen love and as if they are just trying to have fun on their own. The video later shows someone else she was with and that maybe the guy she is with now was her security or something so the video gives us a bit of backstory. This video is for more mature audiences then "Love Story" but can still fit the same audience, as I think this video is for 16-25. The location was at what looked like a motel in the middle of a desert, the lighting was mostly sunset or darker shots showing the ending of a day. The shots were mostly mid shots of either just Ariana Grande or the couple together which would often be close-ups. The whole music video was quite quick pace transitioning from shot to shot. This music video definitely fits the love style brief as throughout the video it shows their journey and their affection for one another.

3. Horror song brief - Thriller (Michael Jackson)

I picked Thriller because it has simply been one of the most iconic music videos of all time. The music video which was released in 1982 created such an iconic dance even to this day, and ha been used for many years on Halloween. It contextualises scenes from Night of The Living Dead and An American Werewolf in London. Its a horror music video so of course it was based at night, a lot of deserted streets and fog or steam around to blur public vision making it look creepier. In the scenes surrounding he music video the audio is made to sound very spooky, with the sound of distant crickets with the car and the monster kind of noises. As you can see in this photo all the scenes were very dark and lit from a distant light in the background and covered in fog. The whole video definitely sticks to the style of the horror themes it is all consistently as creepy.
